SPIRIT and HTC deploy the first Video-over-IP handset

VON Spring Europe, Stockholm – June, 12, 2007 – SPIRIT DSP, the world’s leading provider of embedded voice, audio and video software products, announced today that High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC), the largest Windows Mobile based smart-phone OEM in the world, has chosen TeamSpirit® Mobile Voice&Video Engine to be integrated into its tri-band 3G phones, branded as HTC TyTN in Europe and HTC-Z in Japan.

HTC HTC-Z is the first HSDPA-enabled Microsoft® Windows Mobile® 5.0 device, offering the fastest speeds for internet and download experience along with excellent video calling support. The product targets mainly mobile knowledge workers, and allows them to roam across Japan, Europe, US and Asia. The handset features Wi-Fi, 3G, tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and Bluetooth connectivity. The model includes a front-facing digital camera for video telephony. To deliver the phone to the mass market in Asia, HTC collaborates with NTT DoCoMo.

Apart of its superior voice quality, TeamSpirit® Mobile Voice&Video Engine adds complete video telephony functionalities to the mobile devices. The Voice&Video engine is integrated with SIP and thus can be used on any network, including Wi-Fi, in 200 countries.

Unlike 3GVT-based solutions, TeamSpirit® Mobile Voice&Video Engine does not depend on a specific carrier and can be easily integrated with any communication/collaboration software or/and hardware platform. SPIRIT’s highly optimized solution enables real-time video-over-IP calls while fitting into 200 Mhz performance footprint, making possible to run the mass-market video telephony on standard off-the-shelf devices with very reasonable power and MIPS consumption.

“This joint HTC-SPIRIT project is the second deal between the companies in 2007. We are glad to keep expanding our partnership with HTC that started in 2005,” said Alex Kravchenko, VP Sales & Marketing at SPIRIT. “Today besides HTC, SPIRIT software products are deployed by Compal, Quanta, Arima and other leading mobile OEMs in Asia, Europe and US, whose smart-phone shipments jointly exceed 55% of the global OEM/ODM market.”

TeamSpirit® Mobile Voice/Video Engine is available for licensing (including upgrade for current SPIRIT licensees of TeamSpirit® Voice Engine), and is available for Windows Mobile and Linux, on a range of hardware platforms.
