By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

SPIRIT DSP, a provider of voice and video over IP engines, announced that its TeamSpirit Voice Engine Mobile is enabling HD VoIP calling on the recently launched Viber application for Android mobile devices.

Powered by least cost routing, the HD VoIP calling enables Viber’s Android users to experience the highest call quality possible.

SPIRIT’s Voice Engine Mobile has been powering the free Viber application since December 2010 for iPhone users, according to a press statement.

Leveraging the Viber application, iPhone and Android users can make free HD Viber-to-Viber calls and send messages over 3G and Wi-Fi connections.

SPIRIT’s Voice Engine Mobile is powering Viber-to-Viber free calling to more than 20 million Viber-reported registered users on both Android and iPhone devices.

SPIRIT provides platform interoperability on multiple flavors of Android hardware and OS versions. It enables cross-device, cross-network mobile VoIP communication for Viber users.

SPIRIT’s TeamSpirit Voice&Video Engine Mobile enables HD-quality voice and video calls on a range of mobile devices, addressing all impairments with IP networks. It addresses issues such as congestion, echo, noise suppression, latency, delay, packet loss and lip synchronization, to secure high-quality voice over Wi-Fi and 3G/4G (LTE/WiMAX) networks.

The TeamSpirit Voice&Video Engine Mobile includes optimized standard voice and video codecs, such as G.711, G.723, G.729, iLBC, SILK, H.263, H.264 and SPIRIT’s high-definition patent-free wideband IP-MR codec. TeamSpirit Mobile is available on most smartphone operating systems including iOS, Android 2.x and Windows Phone 7.

Recently, SPIRIT DSP announced that TMC, a global, integrated media company, named SPIRIT’s TeamSpirit Conferencing Platform as a recipient of its 2010 Unified Communications magazine Product of the Year Award. TeamSpirit Conferencing platform is a set of plug-n-play interoperable software engines for both client and server-side.
