SPIRIT DSP, MAAII Collaborate on Cross-platform HD VOIP

MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS — SPIRIT DSP and Maaii Limited have joined forces to deliver cross-platform, integrated HD VoIP communications to consumers and operators.

Maaii has licensed SPIRIT’s TeamSpirit Voice Engine Mobile and TeamSpirit Voice Engine PC Software Development Kits to power its new communication applications with HD-quality VoIP calling for iOS and Android devices.

The new Maaii app is a cross-platform, integrated communications product, allowing free Wi-Fi and 3G calling between Maaii users with low-cost rates to mobile and landline numbers worldwide, the companies said.

“Maaii brings interconnectivity to consumers, carriers and enterprises with cross-platform, mobile-to-mobile communications,” said Maaii Vice President Chris Lewis. “We’re confident that SPIRIT’s proven voice-engine technology and extensive cross-platform support is the right choice to power HD-quality voice on our integrated communications products.”

Andrew Sviridenko, chairman of SPIRIT, said that Mobile VoIP OTT services, like Maaii, are popular right now, on both iOS and Android smartphones.

“In a broadband world, fast mobile VoIP penetration is complicated by the fragmented Android and very dynamic mobile device/OS market, and the lack of quality cross-platform, real-time voice and video communications software,” Sviridenko said.

TeamSpirit Voice&Video Engine is a digital signal and network processing SDK optimized for mobile platforms and designed for the rapid development of high-quality, multi-platform voice and video over IP applications. TeamSpirit includes voice and video codecs, echo and noise processing and advanced tools for stream protection and adaptation to changes in network, execution and physical environments.

The announcement was made in conjunction with Mobile World Congress.
